A sanctuary with a swimming pond

Type:
Swimming pond
Zone:
Province of Milan
Year:
2010

The customer lives in Milan and has some land next to a monastery. It is a peaceful place surrounded by one of the few remaining bits of countryside in the area.

The house is on a raised area of ground and a path leads from it across the large lawn. The only feature that adds a little movement to the garden is a small wood that can be glimpsed in the background.

Consequently, the customer wanted to create a spot where he could really relax. He decided to build a swimming pond because there was plenty of room for it and he was familiar with the benefits that it would bring compared to traditional swimming pools.

We built a swimming pond spanning approximately 800 m². There is an area that is 1.20 metres deep where people can play and take it easy in the water, as well as a large swimming and diving area that is over 3.50 metres deep.

Two biological filter areas constitute the core of the system and help to keep the water perfectly clean, crystal clear, healthy and hygienic. They also provide an ideal habitat for water lilies, lotus flowers and countless varieties of aquatic and wetland shore plants.

Reed thickets add to the sense of seclusion by stopping prying eyes from looking in at the gate, while also serving as a screen for any dust from the road leading to the sanctuary.

Deck chairs, sun loungers and umbrellas can all be placed on the large area of decking right at the water’s edge.

The swimming pond significantly increased the biodiversity in a garden that was very big but did not have a particularly rich array of plant life.

The garden is now a lot more lively and it is visited by a large number of birds.

In the near future, the customer plans to build a path all of the way from the swimming pond to the house, with an artificial stream next to it so that he can hear the water trickling gently near his home.
